Stadler to deliver eight CITYLINK Tram-Trains to Aarhus
Stadler has been awarded a contract to build eight CITYLINK tram-trains for the Danish city of Aarhus. Thanks to their onboard batteries, these vehicles can continue operating seamlessly even when overhead wires are iced over. The contract signed between Aarhus Letbane and Stadler also includes an option for an additional twelve vehicles as well as spare parts management.
This agreement signed on 2nd December builds on a successful partnership that began several years ago, when Stadler supplied trams and tram-trains for Aarhus’ light rail network. With the introduction of CITYLINK, the city takes another major step toward efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly public transport. The new CITYLINK vehicles will be designed and manufactured at Stadler Valencia.

Versatile, Efficient, and Perfectly Adapted to Climatic Conditions
Designed and built for the challenging winter conditions of Aarhus, and equipped with traction batteries, these vehicles ensure hybrid continued operation providing an energy-saving boost during service and additionally a completely autonomous operation in case of overhead line icing. Their unique versatility allows them to run seamlessly on both urban tram lines and regional railway tracks, reducing the need for transfers and making public transport more attractive.
The four-car configuration accommodates up to 324 passengers, including 152 seats—16 of which are foldable—offering greater capacity and comfort while ensuring a highly adaptable layout. Every aspect of CITYLINK’s design focuses on energy efficiency, passenger experience, and low emissions, fully aligned with Aarhus’ sustainability objectives.
Universal Accessibility and Inclusive Design
Accessibility is a cornerstone of the CITYLINK concept. Passengers with reduced mobility benefit from sliding steps at both end cars, ensuring level boarding. Each end car includes a dedicated wheelchair space—two per vehicle. The flat low floor, with only minimal steps at the ends, guarantees easy movement throughout the vehicle. Naturally, CITYLINK complies with all applicable PRM standards, making it an inclusive solution for everyone.
